"Mountain View" Art Yarn
This handspun alpaca yarn is a one-of-a-kind creation. First, it begins with the sheared hair from my white Suri Alpaca named Candy. I skirt and comb the fiber so it is ready for blending. This mix is blended with Heathered BFL Wool roving that is hand-painted. I also have some white silk added in for shine. I weigh the fibers then blend them on my Ashford blending board to create rolags. Finally, the rolags are handspun on my Lendrum spinning wheel. After setting the spin on the yarn with a wash, the skein is ready for a new owner. This yarn looks handspun with its alpaca hair locks and other unique details.
I love being part of the entire process, from feeding the alpacas to washing the yarn for the final setting. I'm a bit of a yarn snob...I mean connoisseur ;-) and I like catering to other people who care about the use of actual animal fibers (no acrylics), the treatment of the animals and story of the farm, and the custom look that only comes from handspun art yarn. Approximately 70 yards
64% Hand-painted Heathered BFL
27% Natural white Suri Alpaca (from Candy's 2016 shearing)
ARTIST NOTES: I love living in the mountains and wanted to capture the beautiful colors. The green is very natural and reminds me of evergreens. The blue is deeper, like the darkness of the sky near nightfall. And the natural white alpaca looks like the rocks and stones in the mountainside.
